During MCO, Malaysia's Talian Kasih hotline (to provide assistance to women & children experiencing abuse among other issues) received an increase in calls by 57%. Women's equality issues in Malaysia include sexual harrassment, sexual violence, sexualization of women in the media, physical violence, balancing work and caring responsibilities, workplace discrimination, gender stereotyping, support for pregnant women and new mothers, domestic abuse, and lack of women in leadership roles (IPSOS, 2020). The case for gender mainstreaming is growing stronger, with a 26.2% income per capita growth projected with increased women participation in the labour force. This collection examines the barriers that prevent institutions from addressing gender equality and identifies solutions for building a stronger, more inclusive workforce.
